Library Midden Brabant - Tilburg, the Netherlands
The Library Midden-Brabant is one of the six largest libraries in the Netherlands. While awaiting a new location, the ground floor and first floor of the existing property have been newly furnished. To make the collections more recognisable, M+R thought up a series of bright colours that serve as a code. These colours have been applied to the front of the bookcases as gigantic decorative elements using the most elementary shapes. The ‘Mikado’ configuration of the bookcases and their largely frontal positioning, allows the collection to be viewed at a single glance. The whimsical, colourful and orderly presentation clearly follows the library’s adage: Unrestricted discovery.
